About the research

This project is funded through the AHRC’s Connected Communities Research Programme. It builds on the work undertaken by Robin Durie along with Prof Katrina Wyatt (UEMS) and Dr Craig Lundy for the “Researching with Communities” project, also funded as part of the Connected Communities Programme. Researching with the six Beacons for Public Engagement, that project sought to determine the processes by which communities are engaged with academic research. The results from this earlier work informed the University of Exeter’s successful Catalyst for Public Engagement research bid to RCUK, for which Robin Durie is the academic lead. The results also informed a new model of funding for community-academic research projects, being trialled by AHRC in the latest phase of the Connected Communities Programme.

This project with Professor Facer will evaluate the implementation of this new funding model, whilst further testing the framework for community engagement developed on the basis of the earlier research. A Research Associate for this project, Dr Lindsey Horner, has just been appointed, and she will liaise between Bristol and Exeter.
