We provide a choice of easy, safe and secure online payment options which a student (or someone on their behalf) can use to pay any fee on their student account to the University. This could be a deposit, tuition or accommodation fees. This page provides information and links to these different online payment methods as well as Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's).

The University of Exeter has partnered with Flywire and Convera to accept payments from UK and international students worldwide.

The below links to our online portals will guide you through the process of payment. You will be offered different payment methods depending on where the person making the payment is located and the avaliable currency options.

Please note: You cannot pay by American Express through Flywire if your card is issued in the UK. American Express is available through Flywire for certain other countries.

Paying with Flywire gives you a choice when making payment with a credit or debit card, or by bank transfer. Using Flywire will allow you to securely make your payment of fees in your local currency or GBP (£). When making your payment, enter the country you are paying from and the amount you wish to pay. You will be shown the avaliable payment methods and rates for your country. 

If you have a debit or credit card issued outside of the UK and choose to pay in GBP,  an additional charge will be applied of 3%. If you chose to pay in your local currency you will be given a choice of payment methods and the associated costs will be displayed.

Pay your tuition fees in instalments: Create an automated instalment plan (RCP)

You can use your credit or debit card to pay your tuition fees in instalments, similar to a direct debit.

Payments are taken from your credit or debit card automatically, so once the payment plan has been created, manual payments are not required.

We are only able to accept Visa and Mastercard for automated payments.

There are different payment plans available depending on your level of study and start date. For an overview of the plans available, please see our Paying your tuition fees in automated instalments guide.

Once you have successfully completed all the steps within the link above, your payment plan will be reviewed and a confirmation emails will be sent to the card holder to confirm the amounts and due dates. The payment plan will reflect on the students online statement shortly after the confirmation email has been sent.

Payments will automatically be attempted on the due dates advised.

Should a payment fail (for example, insufficient funds) a second automated payment attempt will be made five days later.

Should this second payment fail, we ask you make a one-off payment to bring the instalment plan up to date. Further instructions on how to do this will be sent via email to the card holder.

Important: Online courses information

We cannot create an automated payment plan for online courses. Courses should be paid in full before the course begins. Please chose to pay with a credit/ debit card or bank transfer with Flywire or Convera. 

FAQs

You will need your (the student’s/applicant’s) nine digit Exeter student number and your (the student’s/applicant's) date of birth.

You can find your nine digit Exeter student number at the top of most correspondence from the University and on your Unicard. Please note, this number is different to your UCAS number, e.g.:

Anyone can make a payment, for example: student, parent, other family member, friend, sponsor, agent on behalf of the student. They will need your (the student’s/applicant’s) full name, nine digit Exeter student number and date of birth when making the payment.

Using our listed payment methods, you can make payments for:

  • tuition fees
  • tuition fee deposits
  • accommodation
  • other sundry fees, i.e. fines and exam fees

You can use all of our available payment options to pay your deposit. For all options, you will need your (the student's) nine digit Exeter student number and date of birth in order to do this.  For each option, you will be asked to enter what you are paying, for example, Tuition Fee Deposit. This will ensure that your payment is placed on your account correctly.

Yes, you can pay your Tuition fees in instalments with different payment plans available. Details, including payment dates, are available in our How to pay tuition fees in instalments guide.

If you need to cancel an automated payment plan set up via a Recurring Card Payment, please raise an enquiry through SID, as the Accounts Receivable Team will need to cancel the plan.

You can check to see if a payment has been received by logging into your Online Student Statement and checking the balance.

Payments will take different lengths of time to reflect on your online statement depending on the payment method:

  • Convera GlobalPay for students: Can take up to 10 working days for international bank transfers to be received by the University. Once received, the payment should reflect within 2 working days.
  • Flywire and Convera Online debit or credit card payments: Should show within 4 working days of the payment being made.

If your online payment has been unsuccessful please contact your bank or credit card provider as the University is not able to determine the reasons for payments being unsuccessful or declined.

If your payment does not show after 10 working days, then we would advise that you contact SID and provide them with the payment details, quoting your nine digit Exeter student number and name. We can then investigate the transaction.

If you have received an e-mail as your credit/debit card has now expired, or wish to change to a different card, please visit our dedicated 'Card update' webpage and follow the instructions to update your credit/debit card.

The University must adhere to banking regulations in relation to transactions with countries subject to sanctions as listed by the United Nations, the European Union, the United Kingdom and the United States (OFAC). Consequently, if you are from a sensitive sanctioned country as defined by the bodies listed, we can only accept payments from a UK bank account. Credit Card, cheque, bank drafts and bank transfers originating from a sensitive sanctioned country will not be accepted.

Once Flywire have received your payment, it will typically take 2 to 4 working business days for the payment to be processed and applied to your student account.

When selecting your preferred payment method, the total amount due will be clearly displayed next to each payment option.

The total amount for debit/credit card payments includes any processing fees charged by our payment partner, Flywire. Flywire will not impose any additional fees on top of the final amount confirmed when booking your payment. 

Please note, it is important to complete your payment using a debit/credit card denominated in the currency you have selected to pay in. If you use a dual currency card or a card denominated in a different currency other than what was selected as your payment method, your card provider may perform currency conversion, which will result in additional charges that are outside of Flywire's control.
