Studying for a PGCE means that you are likely to need short term accommodation with dates which do not align with our accommodation contracts. The Initial Teacher Education Partnership Office usually notifies trainees of their provisional placements in late July. They recommend that you do not commit yourself to long term accommodation until your placements are confirmed in the Autumn term. The Partnership Office provides some guidance on accommodation options across the region (including Exeter and surrounds) and you will have access to this when you commence the course.
There is a wide range of private accommodation available in Exeter and surrounding areas and many support services here at the University to help with your accommodation search. Take a look at the Private Accommodation pages for support with your search, including advice services and Studentpad, our online accommodation search site.
If you're joining our MSc FAFM course you will need to arrive to the University before the main academic year begins.
- Very few of our residences can accept arrivals before Arrivals Weekend, so a temporary room, which you will need to pay for, is likely to be offered to you until your longer term residence contract begins.
- There are a limited number of temporary rooms available for early arrivals, all in an off campus self catered residence, in mixed gender flats. We aim to group all FAFM students together in temporary accommodation.
- If your term time room will be available within three days of your arrival date, we will not offer you a temporary room. You will need to seek alternative accommodation until your room is available.
- When you complete your accommodation application form, state that you will be a FAFM student, and if you need to move in before Arrivals Weekend, you’ll also need to complete an early arrival application form from early July in the year you start your course.
